What Does it Do?

Science Digest quotes pioneering silver researcher Dr. Henry Margraf saying, "Silver is the best all round germ-fighter we have." (13).

Kills over 650 disease-causing organisms. It quickly cripples the  oxygen-metabolizing-enzyme, or chemical lung of virus, fungus, bacterium, streptococcus, staphylococcus, and other pathogenic organisms. They suffocate and die within a few minutes after contact, and are then cleared out of the body by the immune, lymphatic and eliminatory systems.

Excellent preventative. Taking it daily is like having a second immune system. Spray it on your face, in your eyes, ears, up nasal passages and on your hands to prevent germs from entering your body to begin with! It acts parallel to, and independent of your body's own immune system.

Effective for skin diseases caused by virus, fungus or bacterium. Burn facilities world-wide have used silver for many years. It kills bacteria that cause infection and it brings soothing, cooling relief! Oral use prevents sunburns - plus, all other burns heal faster too.

Accelerates healing. In the presence of silver, more new cells growing in the body may occur as de-differentiated (stem) cells. These are general "could-be- anything", type of cells.  They migrate through the body to wherever there is damage, and change into the type of cells needed. This accelerates healing and lessens the formation of scar tissue. In 1998, Dr. Robert O. Is it Safe?

It is non-toxic, non-allergenic, has no known side-effects, and there are no known drug interactions with any other medicines or herbs. In these micro-doses it does no harm to the liver, kidneys, or any other part of the body. Due to the high absorption of silver in the small intestine, the friendly bacteria in the large intestine are not affected. It is safe for babies and children, even pregnant and nursing women. It actually aids the developing fetus in growth and health!

Simonetti et al concluded "Our contact tests confirmed the excellent antibacterial spectrum and the high potency of electrically generated silver demonstrated previously.... Anodic silver ions are very effective agents at low concentrations without any detrimental effect upon normal mammalian cells, and the [low] concentrations needed to inhibit the bacteria in invitro experiments have been confirmed by clinical data." (23).

As a scare tactic, it has been claimed that it causes a condition called Argyria (a bluish-gray discoloration of the skin). BUT, according to current EPA data, there has NOT BEEN ONE REPORTED CASE from properly prepared Ionic/Colloidal Silver Solutions! It is further claimed that Argyria is "irreversible", however there have been 3 reported cases of Argyria cured. The blue guy (Paul Karason) that looks like Papa Smurf drank massive amounts (2 daily glasses) of 300ppm silver chloride SALTS. Drug companies circulate his picture to scare people back to pharmaceuticals. He refuses to get treated (we'll bet drug companies pay him to use his picture)

What is Ionic/Colloidal Silver?

Silver is a powerful, natural antibiotic. It is .999 pure fine silver, electrically charged and held suspended in distilled water due to their zeta charges repelling each other. Free positively charged ions or monovalent silver also are present. We try to optimize the production of those free ions. The second product linked above claims over 95% silver ions measuring .001-.005 microns in diameter.

Debate rages about whether ionic or colloidal silver is best. Most products and processes produce a combination of both. This study says it is only the active, available silver ions – not the particulate silver – in which the antibacterial property of silver resides. Ions escape deactivation by stomach acid (HCl). Another manufacturer presses for colloidal particles. Still other scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee have found that silver nanoparticles made using bacteria have better antibacterial properties than their chemically synthesized counterparts. Debate continues.

Learning About Medical Silver

It is well documented, even in the Bible, that ancient people knew about the medical value of silver. This knowledge was passed on to the Kings, Emperors, Czars, and the Sultans, their families and members of their royal courts. In ancient Greece and Rome, they all ate from silver plates and cups, with silver utensils, and stored their food in silver containers. As a result, silver was being ever so slightly worn off and mixed into their food. It took a few generations for the benefit, but there was no chance of them getting any infectious illness. They were known as "Blue-bloods". Common people ate from earthenware dishes and were always sick with one thing or another.

From the late 1800's until late 1938, Medical Silver was in common use in America and elsewhere. It was prescribed for many different diseases. There were none of today's man-made antibiotics available, so Medical Silver was used for everything, because it worked for everything! American pioneers and settlers would put a silver dime in their milk to keep it from spoiling. Currently, it is used by many of the world's leaders.

Ancient people used silver vessels to keep liquids fresh. Wealthy people sucked on silver spoons to ward-off disease resulting in the term, "born with a silver spoon". Early pioneers placed silver dollars in milk and water to retard spoilage. Laboratory workers placed silver dimes in petri dishes to sterilize them.

Today, most of the world's air and cruise lines use silver-based water and air treatment systems. NASA used it in the space shuttles. Thousands of swimming pool and hot tub owners around the world have switched to silver instead of chlorine to maintain their water. Imagine relaxing in a hot tub of healthy mineral water instead of caustic chlorine!

How to Use Ionic/Colloidal Silver

Silver interrupts the enzyme needed for respiration in single-cell organisms

• Bacteria (typhoid, diphtheria, food poisoning and pneumonia)
• Viruses (common cold, all types of flu)
• Protozoa (malaria, giardia, amebic dysentery)
• Fungi (ring worm, thrush, candida, athletes foot)

Use in Atomizers, Inhalers, and Humidifiers: Hourly, spray directly in the nose/lungs while inhaling. Buy a little bottle of saline nasal wash, dump contents, refill with CS. Breathe it through a nebulizer to get deep into lungs and indirectly into the bloodstream. Or add 1 ounce or more to the water in a Humidifier. These methods avoid neutralization of particulate silver by stomach acid.

Orally: As a dietary supplement, take 1 or 2 teaspoons daily. Holding or swishing the silver under the tongue for a minute or more before swallowing may result in faster absorption to the bloodstream, (again avoiding stomach acid). As a preventative against more serious disease outbreaks, take ½ ounce twice a day (use the spray too). For serious health concerns, take 1 to 6 ounces several times a day for short periods.

Underarm & Foot Odor: Squirt fine mist from the bottle used for your nose. Very effective deodorant.

For Teeth & Gums: After regular flossing and brushing, use as a mouth wash and gargle to kill germs and bacteria for really fresh breath. For tooth and gum diseases, take orally, brush teeth & gums with natural toothpaste, then silver. Floss before and/or after swishing. Kills germs and promotes healing.

Topically: Spray on your face, in your eyes, up your nostrils, in your ears and on your hands to prevent disease. Apply directly to things like (but not limited to): body piercings, burns (all types), wounds, rashes (including diaper), insect bites, bee/wasp stings (ammonia will counteract the acid sting instantly), eczema, athlete's foot, toe fungus, poison oak, poison ivy, skin cancer & warts (warts should be kept moist). Eye infections & Flash burns: Apply directly into the eyes with the spray or dropper bottle. Use several times a day, for several days or more.

Ear Infections: Put drops in the ears and take orally - 1 to 4 ounces several times a day, use for about a week.

For Diarrhea Diseases: On an empty stomach, drink about 4 oz. or more with about 3 or 4 large glasses of water. This should get it there quickly and take care of the problem. The small intestine absorbs most of the silver in about the first one-third of its length, so the interior of the large intestine is the one place where it doesn't reach very well. It can also be used in enemas. Killing your flora can CAUSE diarrhea, so you need to eat some yogurt to re-populate with the good bacteria.

In Douches & Enemas: Add 1 or 2 ounces to purified water or douche/enema solutions.

For Pets & Parasitic Infections: Give by dropper or put 1-2 tablespoons in drinking water. With regular use, it prevents worms since they cannot reproduce in the presence of silver. Adjust the amount used by the size of your pet or it's needs. Use more for animals with serious health concerns. It can replace the drinking water temporarily. Apply to eyes for eye infections, and topically for rashes, wounds, etc. - it soothes and relieves!

For Plants & Hydroponics: Mix a diluted solution - about 1 ounce per gallon of water. Water as usual.

To Purify Water: Add 1 oz. per gallon of water, shake. Wait at least six minutes and shake again. It kills bacterium, virus and fungus; it does not remove dangerous chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride or pesticides.

As a Fruit & Vegetable wash and Natural Food Preservative: Spray on fresh fruits and vegetables. Use as a natural food preservative. Add to condiments, salads, & picnic foods.

"Healing Crisis",  Not Side-effects.

When disease pathogens are destroyed very quickly, the body's five eliminatory channels (the liver, kidneys, lungs, bowels and skin) may become temporarily overloaded, resulting in a "healing crisis" condition. This might occur around the 3 or 4 days and may include symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, extreme fatigue, aching muscles and other flu-like conditions. Colloidal Silver has been clinically proven to be powerful natural antibiotic, estimated to kill over 650 different disease-causing pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungus and yeast).   Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, noted that silver had beneficial healing and anti-disease properties. Colloidal silver was used widely until around 1938 when the FDA came into being and the movement toward synthetic antibiotics began to emerge.   Although used by NASA on shuttle missions it's use has all but disappeared except for hospital intensive burn units. A group of scientists in Pharm World Sci v.19 pp. 197-201 Aug., 1997, refer to colloidal silver as "an antiseptic agent added because of its known antifungal potency." It has also been reported that having silver in the bloodstream increases the healing process of fractured bones. Small amounts of silver have also been used over time to preserve foods. It is interesting to note that silver - both in liquid solution and as an airborne-aerosol - has been known since 1887 to be extremely toxic to Anthrax spores (1, 10, 11, 12).  And it is widely reported in the medical literature on Silver that various forms of Silver, often at surprisingly low concentrations, routinely kills germs that are known to be antibiotic-resistant (11, 13, 19, 20).

Today we are threatened by more "severe" viruses such as the Ebola and Hanta and other "flesh-eating" bacteria, even germ warfare pathogens most favored by terrorists. However, understanding that these are merely viruses and bacteria, silver renders these organisms as ineffective as any other pathogens. Under a microscope, bacteria which have mutated to the point where they laugh at penicillin are quickly dispatched with a few ions of silver.

Colloidal silver works in several ways. Its very effective anti-microbial properties have resulted in use by doctors for the treatment of AIDS, Cancer, Epstein Barr, Gonorrhea, Lyme's Disease, Candida, fungus, warts and parasites.

DOCTORS - we know your natural skepticism is exacerbated by the FDA and a lack of protocols for using silver. But who would pay for studies on non-patentable therapies? Here is a 2006 study on antibiotic efficacy of silver conducted at Brigham Young and in India and published in CURRENT SCIENCE, VOL. 91, NO. 7, 10 OCTOBER 2006. It covers 7 bacteria and 19 antibiotics.

Mechanism

In order to understand how colloidal silver works, one must first understand the disease-state of the body. The body encounters pathogens and other foreign entities many times a day. When the body is healthy, it maintains a proper pH and oxygen-rich environment.

The pH (parts Hydrogen) inside the cells of the body are usually near an alkaline pH 7.2-7.4. Outside the cell, the fluid surrounding the cells will usually realize an acidic pH near 4.0.   However, when an individual does not maintain a healthy environment in the body, the pH begins to rise in the outer fluid and fall inside the cell. This reduces the electrical potential of the cell. The oxygen levels in the body respond by decreasing. Pathogens that grow in the body will usually attack these weakened cells and "set up shop". Organisms that cause illness and attack these weak cells cannot survive in healthy cells that have outer fluid pH below ~4.0 and inner cellular fluid above pH ~6.9. Silver maintains a positive charge which when introduced to areas of infection, disrupt the organisms causing the illness.

Colloidal silver kills the pathogens by inhibiting the enzyme(s) that these pathogens utilize to survive in their anaerobic environment. This enzyme(s) is the pathogen's "chemical lung". Without the necessary enzyme(s) for metabolism, growth, regeneration and survival, the pathogens "suffocate" and die. It is believed that viruses are destroyed because the electric valence charge of silver particles cause their protective protein coat, also referred to as the "head", to collapse and are rendered unable to replicate. The cells infected by virus will also be susceptible to enzymatic inhibition. They are then removed from the body by the immune, lymphatic, and intestinal elimination systems. This process is so effective that no pathogen has been recorded to mutate against colloidal silver or live in its presence for more than 6 minutes. While antibiotics are losing their effectiveness, as several strains of germs are becoming resistant to conventional antibiotics, they are not able to develop any resistant strains or immunity to SILVER.

How to Construct a Colloidal Silver Generator

1. Get a 6 or 9 volt DC transformer (an old cel phone charger). The mA current doesn't matter as this method uses less than one mA. Regarding the size of the little wall transformer, Radio Shack has 300 mA. and 800 mA. The maximum current our process uses is 1/2 mA. so any will do just fine. There is no electrical shock in these milliamps.
2. Clip the connector off the end of the wire.
3. Get two alligator clips from Radio Shack  or Big Lots for a buck.
4. Separate about 12" of the two wires. Strip the insulation off 1 inch.
5. Connect each lead to the clip.
6. You need two electrodes. Don't waste $20 on 1/4 oz. pieces of silver wire. Go to eBay or a coin store and buy two .999 silver rounds or two 1oz or less silver bars. Each has .999 pure silver, enough to make more Cs than you will ever use.
7. Buy a gallon of distilled water for less than a dollar. You must use distilled or de-ionized water (usually less than 1 PPM of contamination) so you produce ions (a Colloid) and almost no compounds.
8. Buy a fish tank bubbler for about eight bucks. It has the diffuser (makes bubbles smaller) and neoprene tubing as well. You will need about two feet.
9. Bend the coin or bar so it hangs on the edge of a squeaky clean glass or jar.
10. Be sure the coins are squeaky clean. Clamp or hang them on opposite sides of an 8 oz. glass of distilled water. Do not allow to them to touch/short-circuit or the transformer will die.
11. Place the air tubing and diffuser on the bottom of the glass.
12. Fill the glass with distilled water ONLY up to the coins. One does not want the metal from the clips in contact with the water, only the coins.
13. Buy a laser pointer, available as a pet toy in WalMart for about $4.00. Beam your laser pointer thru the water to see there is no Tyndal effect (no red line)
14. You can optionally get your new batch "seeded" by pouring an ounce of the previous batch into the new batch. Super-pure water conducts no electricity, so this gives it some ions to get started.
15. Place air pump above waterline to avoid siphoning and shorting.
16. Plug in the little transformer and bubbler machine.
17. Run for about five hours.
18. Beam your laser thru the water to see the Tyndal effect (thin red line) reflecting some of the larger silver particles.
19. Carefully remove the coins. There will be residue on them and you don't want that in the solution. For even more purity, decant into a clean glass/or plastic container.
20. Keep the Cs out of sunlight in an air-tight bottle.
21. Clean the electrodes/coins thoroughly in preparation for the next batch.

Now you have high-quality Cs in about 5 PPM.

Chet Day who devised this method spoke with Frank Key, the scientist who owns a laboratory that tested for silver particle size and potency. Frank observed, "You have stumbled on to a fine way to make Cs." He did state that the potency would diminish over time and suggested that one make a new batch every week. Considering that it costs you nothing, it makes sense.

He said the secret was the low voltage and the fish pump. Chet thought it was due to more oxygen in the water. Frank stated it was because of the introduction of carbon dioxide, explaining in chemical terms which were over my head. The fish pump is 100% vital to the process.

Water Quality is Critical

You can not produce ions of silver if the water has excessive contamination, as any ions of silver produced will unite with dissolved solids, to produce silver salts! Thus, no free ions of silver will remain, the whole reason for the process! See Colloid for very detailed information and hints for producing the best ionic silver colloid.

You may wish to purchase deionized (distilled) water from your grocery store. At Publix grocery their own brand of deionized water looks very good (less then 0.3 PPM) and only 80 cents a gallon. But quality can vary from 0.5 to 18 PPM, so some weeks it is useless for generating ionic silver. You can also use a Reverse Osmosis deionizer.

Testing

SIMPLE HOME TESTS YOU CAN DO

If you wish to make one of the most important tests of Cs, you can easily do it at home! The best product contains no metallic silver and a very simple test for metallic silver is to add some hydrogen peroxide to the Cs. For a valid test, pour a few spoons of your Cs into a new clean plastic bag and add about half a spoon of hydrogen peroxide (H²O²) to it - the ratio is not critical! Twist the bag, to expel  most of the air and use a paper clip to hold the twisted area. Lay it where it will not be disturbed and look for bubbles after a few hours! If any, you have very poor product! If metal free, there will be none even after 24 hours! Metallic silver is a catalyst for breaking down H²O² into water and oxygen gas, while silver ions have no effect!

The absence of bubbles necessitates another test, to check for silver ions, as you could have only silver salts, which are almost useless! To test for ions, you can add a few grains of table salt to the same baggy of silver colloid and shake it to dissolve the salt.

If you had ions the Cs will turn slightly cloudy (hazy) in a few minutes. As a comparison, add some of your colloidal silver to another baggy, as it may be hard to see the slightly cloudy effect without a comparison sample. The cloud is from silver salts (tiny crystals) forming from the silver ions and chlorine ions from the table salt. In a day or two you may see larger clear crystals of silver chloride on the bottom, but only if the solution was saturated (strong) enough to make them grow!

Another simple test of quality is the Tyndal effect, where you shine a light beam thru the glass of colloidal silver and if there is a strongly visible beam of light through the water, you have poor product, as only big particles (over 400 nm - the lower wavelength of visible light) reflect light. The smaller the particles the better, and an ion-only solution would reflect no light! A thin beam of light is desirable as it is reflecting a smaller number of big particles.

True silver colloids that have a high percentage of the silver content in the form of nanometer sized particles will absorb visible light causing the apparent color to appear dark-amber or brown. It is the very high concentration of particles, not large particle size or contamination, that gives these products such color.

Most cheap Cs generators produce very poor product, due to the formation of silver salts or crystals. Lack of fluid circulation causes the formation of silver crystals. Circulation is enhanced with an aerator. Without a meter, to test your starting water, poor water of over 5PPM will cause you to produce only silver salts! Yet, perfectly de-ionized water conducts no electricity; the minimal amount of particulates in good quality distilled water are needed to initiate the electrical current between electrode and cathode. You can get your new batch started by pouring an ounce of the previous batch into the new batch.

Conventional wisdom suggested that one needs at least 20 milliamperes (ma) to produce the electrolysis needed to make Cs. It looked grim for my experiment for the beginning current was 1/10 of a milliampere or 100 microamps. Four hours later the current had increased to 450 microamperes... something was happening. The solution was crystal clear. "Probably a waste of time," I thought... until I examined the solution with a little laser pen, available as a pet toy in WalMart for about $4.00. WOW! A clear Tyndall effect, named after a Scottish scientist who discovered that shining a bright light through a solution would will reveal a beam... if there are any reflective particles there. In this case, they could only be silver. (Shining the laser before the electrolysis revealed no beam at all) I checked the conductivity with a $40.00 Hanna digital meter. From a beginning 2.1 micro-seimans it was now 13.5.

I sent a sample to the Colloidal Science Laboratory in Westampton, New Jersey for analysis on their Malvern Zetasizer 300DHS, a $70,000.00 machine utilizing atomic Photon Correlation Spectroscopy.   They publish a wealth of information on Cs and have nothing to sell. The lab results were far better that expected. The silver particles ranged from 10.2-25.7 nanometers in size... far better than any others we had analyzed.

Uses and Doses

Environmental Protection Agency’s maximum daily exposure reference dose of 350 mcg per day for a 70 kilogram (154lb) adult is considered safe.

Federal Department of Agriculture (FDA) declared silver a New Drug and banned "Over-the-Counter Drug Products Containing Colloidal Silver Ingredients" as published in the Federal Register 8/17/99 on page 44654. FDA cites a number of unsubstantiated tales against silver, and bemoans the lack of efficacy studies. Of course, nobody can patent colloidal silver, and without a patentable product, who would pay for such studies costing many millions of dollars?
